Manuel "Manny" Simon, a Staten Island, New York educator, has been a teacher at Stuyvesant High School since 2007. At Stuyvesant High School, Manny Simon volunteers with the school’s Red Cross Club, an organization that supports the efforts of the American Red Cross.
The American Red Cross offers volunteer opportunities to help people in need. With a workforce that is 90 percent volunteers, these volunteers play various roles in the New York Area, including being a part of the Disaster Action Team, where they are on-call to provide shelter, food, clothing, and general assistance in the event of a crisis.
The organization also facilitates teaching programs, where volunteers teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other health-related skills to people. Volunteers also teach disaster preparedness courses so that community members know what to do in the event of a disaster. Volunteers serve on area boards, local chapters, and school clubs. There are also several fundraising opportunities. The organization routinely hosts special events and campaigns to fund critical services.
